Smoothie Time

Many times, I make a smoothie for my morning snack at around 10:30. I have a general formula I follow when the standard ingredients are available in my home. It goes like this: 1/3 to 1/2 cup of water, 1 or 2 tangerines (outer peel removed), 1 to 2 handfuls of greens, any other raw vegetables from the fridge that sound good to me or need to be used up, 1/3 or 1/2 heaping cups of frozen berries, and any other frozen fruit that sounds good to me or needs to be used up. In general, other than the tangerines, I try to avoid raw fruits because the pectin level can quickly become to high creating a jammy texture which I hate. But when the larder is low, I become less strict with the formula. The results are not always good. Yesterday I added a whole raw tomato, and that was definitely too much pectin. The result was so jammy, but I did eat it anyways.

In my smoothie today: Water, tangerines, spinach, banana, frozen watermelon

Bird I heard while drinking my smoothie: Black-capped chickadee, white-breasted nuthatch
